Preamble
A Blue Moon comes with a variety of gameplay and difficulty changes, which introduces a more hardcore experience. Within this page, is a gameplay guide which will offer a initial helping hand to starting your modlist experience.
Ain’t That a Kick in the Head
At the beginning of A Blue Moon, during character creation, it is crucial that you choose your build wisely as this can lead to either more challenging encounters or potentially increase the chance for success. Gone are the days of destroying everything with your trusty 9mm pistol. As you create your character, getting an idea of what you want to do will be important as it take longer to level and you get less points when you level and your Tag skills are no longer a massive +15 Boost. As you enter the wasteland and begin your journey you will have to scrounge for supplies all the while staving off the Mojave heat, the wasteland is harsher and everything is out to get you!
The Wild Wasteland trait is given automatically. You thought A Blue Moon was just a serious hardcore list? Nope, mixed into your travels will be some goofy and surprising encounters you’ve never seen before!
They Went That-a-Way
The gameplay has been reworked so now fast travel will cost you water, you will find less supplies throughout the waste and what, you do find you must draw out and make count. What you think supplies are everywhere? Every time you open a container it will be a roll of the dice what you get. Do you get junk? Do you get caps? Maybe some nice stimpaks? You wont know!
Leveling
Leveling will be significantly slower than what you’re probably used to, this was done to prevent you from skipping though content just because your high level trivializes some of what I consider to be fun quests and locations. On the topic of experience to account for the lower experience gain the level cap has been set to 30 as enemies in New Vegas lose their challenge by then anyways.
Scavenging
Thanks to Mojave Arsenal you can now find the materials to reload your own ammo! This will happen on enemies or in containers the chance is set to make it so it helps with the scarcity a bit so you can actually fight enemies without running out of ammo all the time. As mentioned before, loot will be scarce food items can now be found Expired adding to the challenge this is possible due to Vicious Wastes. Consumable crafting has also been changed so that its more rewarding and no longer a useless skill, recipes have been tweaked so Survival will feel like a more rewarding skill. There is now a new temperature system due to both Modern Ambient Temperature and Frostburn these were included to add yet another layer of challenge.
Combat
Combat has been overhauled quite a bit with Lonestar as a base with Vicious Wastes covering the rest, combat will be quicker but also significantly deadlier. Gone are the says of fighting whole groups of enemies like its nothing! Do you like leaning? Because I sure do! So much in fact its been added to the list you can now lean in combat, I currently have this configured to be usable but only while aiming. If you wish to change this feel free to do so within B42 Leanings INI by changing this line in the INI ModKey=257
to ModKey=0
this will allow you to lean without aiming. Included in the list as well is BURN this makes the fire effects feel more unique and less boring, along with that is NEW BLOOD adding new bleed effects and makes melee weapons both more rewarding to use and more challenging to fight against. Robots have been changed significantly you should steer clear at all cost if you are not prepared. Robots take significantly reduced damage from non energy weapons this was done in part to make the useless pulsr mines and grenades useful.
