Guide to Installing A Blue Moon

A guide to installing and configuring A Blue Moon, a Fallout: New Vegas modlist.

1. Preparing Game Installation

Thanks to the method that is used within this Modlist, there’s not much you need to do to prepare your game other than having a clean game installation.

The way this Modlist manages direct root game files and mod files is by implementing a plugin for Mod Organizer called Root Builder, which directly injects any files that are meant to be inside of the Root folder such as DXVK. Further instructions can be found down below.

Cleaning Game Files

  1. Begin by (re)installing Fallout: New Vegas, with all of the DLC.
  2. After that, locate your MyGames > FalloutNV folder and delete all of the provided INIs inside of there.
    • You can ignore this if you have other Modlists and instead make the INIs profile-specific
  3. Launch the game via the Steam launcher to generate new INI files.

2. Modlist Installation

It is required to ensure that your Fallout: New Vegas installation is outside of any Windows Protected folders, I.E. Program Files (x86) and Program Files. Ideally, just simply install your games outside of your Windows installation drive.

Note that the installation of the Wabbajack Modlist REQUIRES to be installed on the same drive as your Fallout: New Vegas installation, otherwise things will fail.

Preparing Folder Structure

To begin, let’s create the folder structure for the modlist. It is recommended to use a folder structure similar to this:

Wabbajack (Make This)
┗ Downloads (Make This)
┗ Modlists (Make This)
┗ A Blue Moon (Make This and Specify Installation to This Folder)
┗ (Wabbajack Files Will Download Here)

Note that this may take minutes, or hours depending on the speed of your ISP, computer, and whether you have Nexus Mods premium. It is highly advised to get Nexus Mods premium to avoid having to click install for EVERY SINGLE mod, there are about ~700 in total in the list

Installing in Wabbajack

  1. Within the Wabbajack UI, click Browse lists and locate A Blue Moon, then click the download button
  2. Designate the Installation Location to the modlist folder you created similarly to above
  3. Do the same for the Downloads Location as well
    • If you are combining downloads to save on space, you may also specify that folder location
  4. Let the installation run through and complete
  5. After the installation has finished, in the Wabbajack UI, click Open installation location in the bottom right and launch ModOrganizer.exe
    • Optionally, right-click this same executable and create a Desktop shortcut to quickly launch it
    • You may also create a Desktop shortcut for launching the modlist directly by selecting A Blue Moon in the dropdown, then clicking the Shortcut button underneath Run and selecting Desktop

Installscript.vdf Issues

If InstalScript.vdf fails to install:

Open the file in a text editor
Ensure the line beginning with run process is entirely lowercase
Run Process → Incorrect
run process → Correct

Manually Downloaded Mods

These are the manual downloads for some files included the files by macintroll are here if they fail on Wabbajack.

Millenia’s Environment Map Shader Fix (Optional)

  1. Navigate to:
    Documents\My Games\FalloutNV
  2. Open RendererInfo.txt
  3. Find your shader model (2nd line from bottom)
  4. Select the correct shader package based on your model within MO2

Epic games, GOG, and PCR users!

Due to the way things work with Wabbajack I am not able to make the list on the UI work for you guys as I have to compile it separately but I do support those installs. Although I cannot confirm if the Epic Games version Actually works as I don’t have anyone to test it for me, to install for these platforms use this link.

To install the list download the file once its finished downloading open Wabbajack then select browse lists next in the top right of Wabbajack click install from disk and select the file you downloaded from the link above then begin the install as normal.

After Wabbajack finishes you need to go to the stock game folder within the installation your pathing may be different than the pathing here depending on where you’ve installed the list but the stock games location will be the same, here is an example pathing E:\Modlists\A Blue Moon\stock game. Once here you need to copy all the files within your Fallout New Vegas folder from your platform to this stock game folder.

If you have already launched MO2 before doing the steps above you will need to go into the MO2 plugins folder A Blue Moon\plugins and delete the platform_config.json. Once that is done Open MO2 and Select your platform, then go to setting in MO2 (The Wrench Icon in the top left). Select the paths Tab and change the Managed game at the Bottom to the FalloutNV.exe in the stock game folder.

Selecting Your Platform

Once you launch the modlist, a pop-up will appear asking for you to select which platform your game was installed from, i.e. Steam/GOG or Epic Games. Choose the correct platform and MO2 will automatically patch the game executable specific for your platform.

Be sure to select the correct platform at first, otherwise you will have to restore the Fallout NV executable and delete the platform_config.json file in plugins folder within MO2.

Steam/GOG users have a premade executable, it is named A Blue Moon within MO2.

Recommended System Specs

The below system specifications are ideal to achieving an optimal and smooth 1440p60 experience.

These are the specs I have and what I personally played and built the list off of, these are by no means needed I get around 80-90 fps with all the bells and whistles. NVIDIA uses can probably expect more performance.
