Community Guidelines

Community Guidelines

These guidelines help keep our community welcoming, safe, and focused on sharing great mods and modlists. Please read and follow these rules.

Core Principles

Be Respectful

Treat others as you want to be treated and respect different opinions and playstyles. Constructive criticism is welcome, but harassment, bullying, personal attacks, and toxic behavior are not tolerated.

Be Honest

Accurately describe your mods and modlists, and always give credit where credit is due. Don't mislead users about content, requirements, or bugs—honesty builds trust in our community.

Be Lawful

Only upload content you have the rights to distribute, respecting copyright, intellectual property, and game developer policies. Pirated content, cracks, or illegal material will result in immediate removal and account penalties.

Content Guidelines

Quality Standards

Modlists: Provide clear, accurate descriptions with all required dependencies and prerequisites. Test your modlist before publishing and keep installation instructions up-to-date with representative screenshots.

Mods: Clearly describe what your mod does and list all requirements, compatibility issues, and version numbers. Include changelogs, troubleshooting information, and appropriate tags to help users.

Prohibited Content

You may not upload or post:

  1. Malicious Content

    • Malware, viruses, or trojans
    • Scripts that harm users' systems
    • Intentionally broken or corrupted files
  2. Stolen Content

    • Content uploaded without permission
    • Mods taken from other creators without credit
    • Reuploads of paid mods as "free"
  3. Illegal Content

    • Pirated games or DLC
    • Cracks, keygens, or license bypasses
    • Content that violates laws
  4. Harmful Content

    • Hate speech or discriminatory content
    • Content promoting violence or self-harm
    • Doxxing or sharing personal information
    • Threats or intimidation
  5. Sexual Content Violations

    • Sexual content involving minors (instant permanent ban)
    • Non-consensual sexual content
    • Improperly tagged NSFW content
    • Explicit content without NSFW declaration
  6. Spam and Abuse

    • Duplicate uploads
    • Advertising or commercial spam
    • Manipulating downloads or views
    • Mass messaging or unsolicited promotion

NSFW Content Policy

Declaration Requirement

You MUST declare the NSFW level of all content:

  • None: No sexual, violent, or mature content
  • Mild: Suggestive themes, mild violence, mature language
  • Moderate: Partial nudity, realistic violence, mature themes
  • Explicit: Full nudity, sexual content, graphic violence

NSFW Rules

Always overestimate when in doubt—choose a higher NSFW level to be safe. Deliberate mis-tagging results in strikes and content removal. Cover images must be appropriate (no explicit thumbnails), descriptions should remain tasteful, and all NSFW content is restricted to users 18+.

What Requires NSFW Tags

  • Sexual content (any level)
  • Nudity or revealing clothing
  • Graphic violence or gore
  • Drug use or mature themes
  • Content restricted by game ratings (M/AO)

Bug Reporting Guidelines

Reporting Bugs

Be specific when describing issues, including game version, mod versions, load order, and crash logs when possible. Search for existing reports before creating duplicates, and keep each report focused on a single issue.

As a Mod/Modlist Author

Try to respond promptly and helpfully to bug reports without dismissing users' concerns. Keep users informed of progress and remember to close resolved issues once they're fixed.

Bug Report Etiquette

Be polite and patient—authors are volunteers providing free content. Don't spam demands for instant fixes, accept when issues are marked "won't fix," and thank authors for their time and help.

Community Interaction

Comments and Discussions

Keep comments relevant and constructive, offering helpful feedback rather than starting flame wars. Don't beg for updates, demand features, or discuss piracy—focus on respectful, on-topic conversations.

Giving Feedback

Focus on the content rather than attacking the creator personally. Explain your concerns clearly, suggest improvements respectfully, and acknowledge the effort authors put in. Use the kudos/like system to show appreciation for content you enjoy.

Crediting Other Creators

Always give credit to mod authors whose work you use, linking to originals when possible and respecting their distribution permissions. For collaborative work, credit all contributors fairly.

Privacy and Safety

Personal Information

Keep personal information like addresses and phone numbers private, and don't ask others for theirs. Use privacy settings to control your profile visibility and never share your login credentials with anyone.

Discord and External Links

Only link to official channels like Discord servers and Nexus pages—we're not responsible for external content. Keep webhook URLs private and never share suspicious or phishing links.

Moderation and Enforcement

How We Moderate

  1. AI screening: Automated detection of harmful content
  2. User reports: Community flagging of violations
  3. Manual review: Human moderators review flagged content
  4. Appeals process: You can appeal moderation decisions

Strike System

  • 1st strike: Warning + notification
  • 2nd strike: 7-day suspension
  • 3rd strike: 30-day suspension
  • 4th+ strikes: Permanent ban

Severe violations (malware, illegal content, sexual content involving minors) result in immediate permanent ban.

What Happens When Content is Removed

  • You receive a notification explaining why
  • Content is moved to draft or deleted
  • Strike may be applied depending on severity
  • You can edit and resubmit (if draft)
  • You can appeal if you believe it's an error

Appeals Process

  1. Review the moderation notice
  2. If you disagree, contact support with explanation
  3. Appeals reviewed within 7 business days
  4. Decision is final after appeal review

Best Practices

For Mod/Modlist Authors

Keep your content current with regular updates and respond to questions and bug reports promptly. Provide clear documentation and changelogs, warn about compatibility issues, and remind users to backup saves before installing.

For Users

Always read descriptions and check requirements before downloading. Follow installation instructions carefully, use bug reports (not comments) to report issues, and support creators with kudos. Remember that authors are volunteers—be patient and appreciative.

Building Your Reputation

Create quality content consistently and help other users in comments and discussions. Follow the guidelines, be responsive and helpful, give credit generously, and collaborate with others to build a positive reputation.

File Upload Guidelines

File Requirements

Allowed formats include archives (.wabbajack, .7z, .zip), images (.jpg, .png, .gif, .webp), and documents (.pdf, .txt, .md). Files are limited to 5GB each with 10GB total storage per user. All uploads are scanned with VirusTotal, and files with malware detections will be removed immediately.

Naming and Organization

Use descriptive filenames with version numbers, avoiding special characters and keeping names under 255 characters. Delete outdated versions regularly, organize optional files properly, and clean up unused uploads to manage your storage quota.

Getting Help

Support Resources

Start with documentation and FAQs for mod installation help, use the bug report system for technical issues, and ask the community in forums for general questions. Contact support directly for account-related issues.

Reporting Violations

If you see content that violates these guidelines, use the "Report" button and provide specific details about the violation. Don't engage with the violator—let moderators handle it. Abusing the report system with false reports may result in penalties against your account.

Changes to Guidelines

We may update these guidelines as the community grows and evolves. Major changes will be announced. Continued use of Modding Lounge means you accept the updated guidelines.
